TranslatorsTraining.com compared 13 translation environment tools (or TEnTs as the site prefers to call it) in table format and in video. They asked each one of tool providers the question: “Using your tool, what’s the best way to translate this Word document?” The result was a step-by-step process captured in video for each of the tools. The venture is an initiative of Jost Zetzsche, the author of the famed The Tool Kit newsletter, and Alessandro Potalivo from Intrawelt, an eLearning solutions company. In addition to the videos, which constitute a more efficient way for the 90% of translators who don’t use translation technology to make informed buying decisions, the site also publishes a comparison chart of key characteristics of the following tools: across, Déjà Vu, Heartsome, Lingotek, MemoQ, MetaTexis, MultiTrans, OmegaT, SDLX, Similis, Star Transit, Trados, and Wordfast. The site will certainly include Elanex and Orca in the future. For one year of access to the video tutorials, TranslatorsTraining.com charges €34.99; definitely a good investment considering the exorbitant cost of some leading TEnTs. On a lighter note, we can see in the introductory video that Jost is growing some hair (or maybe he just forgot to shave his head that morning).
