The U.S. Defense Advance Research Project Agency’s (DARPA) Spoken Language Communication and Translation System for Tactical Use (TRANSTAC) focuses on English and Iraqi Arabic. The National Institute of Standards and Testing is evaluating system capabilities for speech recognition,tria machine translation, noise robustness, user interface design, and performance for these handheld devices.
